Hurdle Title Snowride Date 1990s object Painting Media oil Size 94 x 68.5cm Ref 882 Purchased in RWA Academicians' exhibition in 1998 Other websites featuring this artist's work www.rwa.org.uk/memfrm.htm Snowride ‘Snowride’ is painted on heavy stretched paper. The free theme of this period originates from a time when my open air studio was a very private plantation standing on the edge of Ashton Court. There I painted through all seasons directly from the subject. This activity came to an abrupt conclusion when the plantation was felled leaving a kind of World War I landscape. Happily this coincided with a growing feeling that I should return again to painting within the comfort of a studio. The 70s saw a complete change in my working method and techniques, working within the studio enjoying a more reflective approach. These paintings show a formalised subject where elements of space and light are realised through glazes of translucent colour. ‘Snowride’ is set in a wood in Ashton Court Park, the subject of a whole series of paintings. The seal in the right hand corner, is one I brought back from Hong Kong when I was exhibiting there. It indicates my love of Chinese art. back |
