Royal West of England Academy
Born in 1929 Mike Hitchings is a musician and artist, who trained at the West of England School of Architecture from 1945 to 1946. He was subsequently a partner in the architectural practice of Moxley, Jenner & Partners in Bristol where he learned to draw with the accomplishment so evidently displayed in this work for the permanent collection. He retired as an architect in 2000 and now concentrates on painting and drawing, mainly working in Cornwall. He is a regular exhibitor to the RWA and was included in the Seven Academicians Exhibition in 1995.

Mike Hitchings is also an active musician playing trombone, soprano sax and clarinet. After military service he joined 'The Avon Cities' on clarinet and led the band on soprano sax. He has accompanied some great names in jazz such as Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee amongst several others.
