Albert Cox Title Ann’s Youngest Daughter Date Early works object Painting Media oil Size 101.5 x 127cm Ref 996 Documented as part of the RWA Early Collection Other websites featuring this artist's work no websites given Ann’s Youngest Daughter Elijah Albert Cox (also known as E.A.Cox) was born on October 16th 1876 in Islington, North London. He was educated at the Whitechapel People's Palace and the Bolt Court Technical School, later the London College of Printing. It was here that he learned his outstanding lithographic skills and draughtsmanship that made his commercial and non-commercial work so sought after. Cox was both a painter and mural/poster artist. His posters included work for railway and shipping companies (including the London Underground 1915-1926) and the Empire marketing Board. He also illustrated a number of books including a celebrated edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Cox exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy and Society of Graphic Artists, and was elected to the RBA in 1915 and the RI in 1921. His work can be found in public galleries in Bristol, Canterbury and Preston. E.A.Cox died on April 20th 1955 in his 79th year. back |
