The Green Peignoir
David Cox was born in 1914 at Falmouth, Cornwall, he painted mainly in oil and studied art in London, France and Italy. He was honorary secretary of the St Ives Society of Artists and founder of the Penwith Society of Arts in Cornwall. He left Cornwall to paint in St Tropez and benefit from the Mediteraenean light he so admired in the paintings of Matisse.

Cox has exhibited at RA, ROI, New English Art Club, RWA, NS, and throughout mainland Europe. He had one-man shows in London and ran his own art school for many years.
