White Beach
‘White Beach’ is an evocation of Mediterranean heat. It is not an English beach. To the right of the composition are the pebbles and detritus that lie above the outgoing tide. A semi-circular shape intrudes into that space occupied mainly by sand and is echoed by a strong boomerang curve above. A suggestion of green tundra abuts the dark blue sky. The pebble marks are reflected in a box-like structure to the left of the composition, and the painting as a whole is contained within a rigid configuration that is a feature of this painter’s style.
