Silent Shadows-22
Silent Shadows-22 is the last in a series of 22 drawings, started in 1998. Mainly known for my sculpture, I produce series of drawings from time to time, drawings in there own right and in parallel to my 3D work.  The titles, always very important, and are chosen with extreme care. In this instance memories contain shadows - shadows left on the mind from visual or emotional experiences and shadows are silent, the aim to encourage a contemplative approach.

The works began in Menorca as a direct response to the rich, varied colours of the earth and the strength of the shadows in the Mediterranean sun. Choosing heavy paper, all torn to the same size, I worked with an endless collection of crayons, pastels, waxes and marking implements, working freely and intuitively allowing layers of colours to arrive at the surface or not, sometimes adding collage elements, until the drawing said stop. The frames are also all the same size; I wanted the series to hang in one united, continuous line at some point in its life. This was achieved at the Royal West of England Academy in 1999 after which they became dispersed throughout the world.
