He was a portrait and landscape painter, usually in olis and was strongly influenced by the works of Matisse, Modigliani and Spencer, his work having something of thier immediacy, structure and joy of colour. During the 1930's, Newton travelled widely, both in Europe and the UK, always looking for new vistas and subjects to paint. With the outbreak of war, he settled in Gloucestershire. Nigel Ramsay Newton passed away in 1976. back |
